Z wrote the novel in the early 1940s, during World War II, wanting to have a fitting end to Y's series of novels, Z had the novel locked away in a bank vault for over thirty years. The final Y novel that Z wrote was published in 1972. Knowing that she could no longer write any novels, the elderly Z authorised X's removal from the vault and subsequent publication. It was the last of her books to be published during her lifetime.
