'X-Y' were a scriptwriter duo who wrote a number of commercially and critically successful Hindi films in the 1970s and early 1980s. The duo, comprising of 'X' and 'Y', made the writer's role popular with their names appearing in the posters of the films, and in some films they shared up to 25% of the profit. Their association lasted until 1982, following which 'Y' moved into writing lyrics for films. During their time working together, the duo won six Filmfare Awards.They lived in Bandra and would write stories together. Since their individual work was flopping, they decided to team up.Who are they?

Salim khan-Javed akhtar.
The duo were very famous and are close friends even today.In fact,salim khan liked Farhan Akhtar's performance in rock on!! so much that he presented him with one of his filmfare awards!!
