The first of this type of custom built vehicles was a 1964 Lehmann-Patterson. Today the purpose is served by a Mercedes M class or 600. Sometimes even a ML 430 is used.
The FSC Star is used in Poland, the Seat Panda in Spain, a Ford D series in Ireland and the Mercedes Benz 230G in Germany, all doing the same job.
All of them follow a colour code. Their performance is cut down considerably due to lack of aerodynamic give and addition of polycarbonate and thermoplastic among other things.
