Question 1397: Mash up

Quite some time since we have had a multiple element long connect, here's one:

The song A was written by B in 1975 and released as a part of the album of the same name. The song is about B's relationship with C ten years before, although C is not specifically named in the song.  B in fact told C that the song was about her ex-husband, which was obviously not true.

In her memoir, B records a conversation with C:
"You gonna sing that song about robin's eggs and diamonds?" C had asked me on the first day of rehearsals.
"Which one?"
"You know, that one about blue eyes and ________..."
"Oh", I said, "you must mean 'A', the song I wrote for my husband, ______. I wrote it while he was in prison."
"For your husband?" C said.
"Yeah. Who did you think it was about?" I stonewalled.C
"Oh, hey, what the f*** do I know?"
"Never mind. Yeah, I'll sing it, if you like."

After a couple of years, the band D covered the song A with changed lyrics. This cover is a heavier version of the original song which had primarily folk roots. It often features on the live setlists of the D. In recent years, D have been performing a mostly-acoustic version of the song that is more similar to the original than the heavier version.

The band D is one of the oldest, most influential bands of their genre. The band takes its name from a song E by C. Another Swedish punk band is also named after the song E.

Identify A,B,C,D,E.
