Quesion 1044: I Swear!

Here are a few lines from a well known passage:

I swear........the following Oath and agreement:
To consider dear to me, as my parents, him who taught me this art, to live in common with him...........to look upon his children as my own brothers, to teach them this art.
I will prescribe regimens...........according to my ability and never do harm to anyone.
I will not give______________________________________________ and similarly I will not give a pessary to a woman...
But I will preserve the purity of my life and arts.
I will not cut for stone..... I will leave this to be performed by.....specialists in this art.
....All that may come to my knowledge in the exercise of my profession......I will keep secret and will never reveal.
If I keep this oath faithfully may I enjoy life and practice my art, respected by all and in all times, but if I swerve from it, may the reverse be my lot.

3. The blanked out line has special significance in a current issue..Explain.

And well, the three questions aren't related..

Answer: The Hippocratic Oath. The bold part warns physicians against the 'cutting' of people suffering from stones(kidney or gall bladder) something better left to surgeons.
The blank says 'I will not give a lethal drug to anyone even if I be asked', suggesting euthanasia, a current topic of legal discussion.

    Hippocratic oath. Not cutting for stone means not performing surgery. The blanked out line is related to Euthanasia.

    the current issue being euthanasia, i guess the blank goes something like "i will not give anything which will intentionally cause death, nor condone such intentions"...

    the blanks are abortions and euthanasia, which refers to the aruna shanbaug case
    wanted to ask the euthanasia question.
    the bold lines refer to kidney stones, how he shall not cut them out himself & how he shall leave the surgery to those more skilled

    I think cutting stone refers to Bladder and Kidney stones.
    And the blanked line should have something to do with euthanasia

    This is the Doctors Oath - Hipocrates's .
    The blank , I think refers to mercy killing(as its in the papers!) ....
    the bold part .... Maybe refers to Sushruta ?
    (as he was the Father of Surgery)
