Question 1284

The name of this small village X is derived from the red flower Butea which is known as Polash in Bengali and flowers in the spring. In 1998, the Khaitan Group, which has a factory in this village X for making sugar, had tried to change the name to Khaitan Nagar. However, protests from the locals led the group to scrap the proposal.

    The village is Palashi or the anglicized Plassey. This is where Robert Clive(Picture 1) defeated Siraj-ud-daula(Picture 2) in 1757.
