About Us

Hi all blog readers,

Quizlexic has been on the quiz blogging circuit since 2008 and the following page is about who we were, who we are and who we plan to be.

THE PAST:

BEFORE QUIZLEXIC:

Introduced to the local quizzing scene of Pune at  the age of 13; Rohan Danait, Sanket Bhilare, Rohit Sahasrabudhe, Satyawrat Wagle and Advait Chittar studying in Abhinava Vidyalaya , 8th grade, quickly struck a chord. Inspired by their highly ambitious Maths teacher Mrs. Laxmi Gandhi, the boys took up quizzing as a hobby, a retreat from the tense academic atmosphere which engulfs almost all urban schools nowadays. The opportunists that they were, they stared using the excuse of quizzing to bunk monotonous lectures of Social Studies and Languages to hang out in the school library which housed a great collection of general knowledge books which they scoured day in and day out. Under the constant mentorship of Gandhi Ma’am and senior students Vibhav Bhave, Pushkar Pandit and Kunal Kalkundri hardcore quizzers themselves, the hobby quickly evolved into a passion.

The boys had big boots to fill in, considering that the school had achieved nationwide fame just few years ago when two of its brightest students Rohit Chandrachud and Rohit Bahulikar had won the National Finals of the ESPN Sports Quiz hosted by Harsha Bhogle. See the link for the full article: http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=89743

9th grade approached marking the departure of Advait Chittar, who moved to Bangalore(as it was called at that time). However this small group expanded with the addition of new friends Mihir Rege, Alok Kulkarni and Aditya Karve who joined us in the quest for useless knowledge. The group started participating in each and every quiz in Pune.

Constantly overshadowed by the supergroup of Vibhav, Pushkar and Kunal who virtually won every quiz in the city in which they participated, the boys did not let this deter their spirit and they worked harder to emulate their senior’s achievements. The rule of 1-team-per-school for the finals of most quizzes made it really difficult to qualify and they were marked as the perennial underachievers.

Throughout this span of 2 years, another important group of people who have been our inspiration and motivation was the Boat Club Quiz Club a group of quizzing fanatics from the prestigious College of Engineering, Pune who, since their inception have been spearheading the quizzing circuit in Pune.

The start of 10th grade brought in a lot of changes, both welcome and unwelcome. The upside was the departure of the seniors, which meant we had a better shot at the quizzes. At the same time, the ridiculous importance on 10th standard board exams in one’s life implied we had to study harder to get into a decent college.

The summer vacations before 10th standard was the birth of Quizlexic, which posted its first question set on 22nd May.

QUIZLEXIC:

2008:

The brainchild of Rohan Danait, who wanted to share his knowledge with others, a blog was setup assuming the name of Quizza Hut (from Pizza Hut of course) which was then changed to Quiz Adda (which sounded rowdy according to some) before finally settling on Quizlexic (which was proposed by Sanket, as a play on the word “dyslexic”) The name stuck for the rest of the known time.

Beginnings were slow; in fact they proceeded at snail’s pace. Catering to a small audience of barely 10 people was a bit demotivating and Rohan posted only few posts each month till December 2008.
That was when the change came. Rohan added all his friends from the Quizzing circle to post questions and Quizlexic got 6 new authors Sanket, Rohit, Mihir, Satya and Alok. Aditya also joined in shortly. The pace of questions was stepped up a notch and the visitors increased when the blog was added to Quizblogs.com thanks to Mihir.

2009:

January 2009 witnessed the most number of questions Quizlexic ever posted in a month (74) and that too at the time of their prelim exams for SSC boards. The blog then proceeded at a steady pace as all authors started to pitch in with their contributions. Siddharth Jadhav was added as coauthor.

2010:

Rohan started another quiz blog on Wordpress named Question Markers and started managing both blogs at the same time. Quizlexic featured in the local newspaper “Pune Mirror”, the first quiz blog to do so, with a small space dedicated to it, which was brought about by school friend Ritwik Deshpande. The blog also got a new logo, nothing fancy, designed by Amogh Kinikar. See the link for the related article: http://quizlexic.blogspot.com/2010/08/quizlexic-in-pune-mirror.html.
THE PRESENT:

2011:

However, the onset of the HSC Boards and other engineering entrance exams meant that the blog would not be regularly updated. Two new authors, a year junior to us all were added Soumya and Rishiraj to fill in for us during this period. Rohan also started another quiz blog(2 weren't enough for him) this one specific to rock/metal/blues/jazz music along with Siddarth Pai from The Quizzard and named it Another Blog In The Wall.

Rishiraj and Soumya hosted Quizlexic very well and maintained the standard of the blog over a span of 5 months without any major slip-up on the way.

Nice to see u guys had such a great exposure since school level. I was an avid quizzer in school but got completely disconnected due to JEE and AIEEE. I actually reignited my thirst for random knowledge after i came across your blog some 3 months back. Kudos to u guys for managing to continue your passion after school. Hopefully engineering and other stuff won't diminish your enthusiasm for quizzing. All the best for a bright future! :)
